This is an old post, from last year! I thought it would be helpful to reblog it for all of you wondering what to do!
You can still use baking soda to wash, just rinse twice with the vinegar to help get the chlorine out and to moisturize your hair!
I know it is almost the end of summer but that means you are trying to cram in more days to swim at the pool or maybe the beach!
You may need help saving your hair from the chemical damage your lovely “no poo” tresses will endure! Here are some tips!
This weekend we took my 3 year old niece to a water park for the first ( yes it was effing cute) but I was so bummed because my hair would have to be in chlorine! I wore it up and tried to stay out of the water….this was not practical! 3 year olds like to PLAY and I am a fun auntie! I wanted to play too! So here is how I saved my hair from the chlorine!
1-I used the public shower they had in the girls locker room. Most water parks have them (or gyms even if you want to swim at your local gym) I just soaked my hair down. This way my hair is already wet with less chlorinated water and won’t “soak” up so much chlorine.
2-I ran some coconut oil through my hair before I got in the pool. It like made a protective barrier between my hair and chlorine…..and we all know how big of a bitch this stuff is to wash out sooooooo I knew it wasn’t really going anywhere. It helped a lot!
3- Before we left I rinsed my hair again in the shower. Just to make sure to remove any chemicals from my hair-so when it air dried on the way home….it wouldn’t dry hard due to the chemicals and oil.
4- When I got home I hopped into the shower and washed my hair with my Chagrin Valley coconut milk shampoo bar (to really rinse the oil and any lingering chemicals out) the shampoo bar is really nourishing and rinses clean! The coconut oil made my hair so soft and the shampoo bar was like icing on the cake. Coconut oil and milk are very good for your hair as both are very moisturizing.
You can do the same while swimming in the ocean! Remember sea salt is very drying! If you can help it rinse your hair before and after your swim…..you can use any of the previous masks that I have posted to take it a step further and make your hair even more soft!
If you don’t want to do any of the above for whatever reason…..your best bet is to wear a swim cap! It will keep your hair from getting soaked in the chemical/salt water. You could even wear cconut oil on your hair while wearing the cap…the heat from the sun will help the oil penetrate your hair and make it an even more nourishing mask!
Have a happy rest of the summer and I hope you protect your hair from the harsh pool water and sea/ocean!!!! <3
Happy Monday! How was everyone’s weekends? I hope they were great and that your Monday is chugging right along!
We had a very eventful weekend! First, we started our weekend on Thursday(holla!) and we went to Target. Target is my happy place, mecca, mother-ship, homeland, whatever you want to call it…Target is my jam. I saw this top on Emily Gemma from The Sweetest
Thing blog and I had to have it. I tracked it down and it was from Target, in the girls’ section! I was on the hunt for an XL (remember this is little girl sizes) there was one left in my area and I snagged it! I love the chambray and cut of the top. It is very airy and the tank keeps me cool. I also love me some pom-poms. I also got this top for $6-it’s listed for $9 online! The thrifter in me was so proud and happy!
My sister-in-law got married Friday and my husband got ordained (online-pretty fancy stuff) and officiated her wedding. My father-in-law works on old cars so we are pictured next to one with the family name on it, we took a selfie of course, and I got drunk and demanded a selfie with the bride! It was a great time with great people!
Also this weekend I took a stab at watercolors. How random right? Haha, I have seen so many accounts on Instagram of watercolor artists and I just wanted to paint! I was so inspired by some of their work I just had to create something (even if it looks like a kindergartner made it). So I went out and got some random watercolors, a water color paper pad, brushes, and a little mixing dish. I practiced some techniques that good ole Youtube taught me and then I kept painting fruit. Watermelons to be exact. I didn’t take a picture of my fruit, haha, but after I felt like I had “the hang of it” I drew this little deer and painted her! I know she’s so crooked and a little uneven but I just love it! I really like watercoloring and I think I found my new random hobby….. I have had a lot….
I hope that you all had fun weekends and that you all have a great week!
Happy Hump Day!
I love a good trip to Goodwill. I haven’t been in ages (I dunno why just haven’t) but we went today in search of shirts for the hubs. We found 2 winners and I found these:
A vintage Better Homes and Gardens gardening book. It’s so perfect! The pages are bright and intact and very pretty! $3
A heart shaped pancake mold. I also plan to use this for fried eggs! $.50!!!
I found some neon Sam and Libby flats but there was a stain we thought we couldn’t wash out (seriously so sad) and I found an old cook book but it wasn’t in great condition.
BUMMER of the day…..I found a vintage barcart, walked away to find Steve to show him (in hopes of being able to take it home) when we walked back over (LITERALLY 5 minutes) it was gone!!!! Ugh. I guess it wasn’t meant to be! Haha. I have my eye on a dresser/buffet type piece that would look great in my apartment………if it’s still there next time……I’ll get it!
I love thrifting! I need to get back into to it! I didn’t even check out the clothing today😳😳😳😳😳 so now I will have to go back…..
Happy Friday eve!
How is everyone doing?
I’ve been great! I went hiking yesterday and it was so sooooo hot but it was nice to get out of the house and explore with my husband!
I wanted to share more meal ideas with you! I am pretty boring! I could eat the same stuff all the time (if it ain’t broke done fix it ha) soooo that’s why I don’t share daily meals. Half the time it was the same as the day before!
1-I love soy or veggie burgers! Sooooo tasty and so easy! I like them wrapped in romaine with spicy mustard and sriracha! I sometimes add tomatoes and avocado.
2-my favorite thing ever. Avocado toast! So yummy! Pictured here I toasted 2 pieces of wheat bread, lightly buttered them, mashed one half of an avocado over the two pieces with red pepper flakes, a bit of salt, a TON fresh cracked pepper, sriracha and I squeezed lemon juice over it all. SO creamy-spicey-fresh! Sometimes I like to add an over medium (I think that’s when the yolk is somewhat runny—that’s how I like it) egg on the top! So yummy and keeps me full!
3-I could eat a salad all day every day. This one is of romaine leaves topped with grapefruit, feta cheese, and poppy seed dressing. Love the saltiness of feta, the fresh juiciness of the fruit, and the sweet dressing brings everything together!
These are just some of the things I eat. Like I said I am not really on any diet I just choose to eat clean and try to stick with it. I usually drink Le Croix sparkling waters (Lemon, Grapefruit, and Lime are my favs) or I drink water with either a lemon, lime, or grapefruit in it! See a pattern? Haha I like citrus.
Hope all is well! Thank you for following me! I know a lot of you followed for my hair advice/natural beauty routine but I’m starting to make my blog more about my lifestyle and Hope you all stick around😁 thanks for all your love and sweet comments! You guys rock!
How are you?!
I’ve ditched Dukan😁😁😁😁, diets aren’t for me! I think I’ll just stick to eating better…period.
I’ve been drinking tons of water, eating fruits and veggies, and eating less sugary items and junk food. I’m down 3 lbs…..any progress is progress☺️!
I am not going to restrict my body, if I want something I will eat it. I won’t make a meal out of icecream but I will have a scoop! I will stop rewarding myself with food…..I am not a dog. Since eating this way I no longer feel like I am on a diet. I want to eat healthy to be healthy. I stopped counting my calories-deleted calorie counters on my phone-and I’m just going to fill up and fuel my body with delicious food!
Today I bought a bunch of produce for salads and meals for the week!
My lunch was this salad.
I do not have a name for this but here is what’s in it!
Tuna “salad” :
I used one can tuna in water
Mixed with a bit of avocado (like a slice? I didn’t really keep track)
Half a lemon
TONS of fresh black pepper
The Salad part:
A whole romain heart chopped
Half of a white peach in slices (cut how you wish!)
Half of a papaya, cubed
Half of an avocado (from which one slice or so was sacrificed for the tuna)
Half of a lemon
Fat free poppy seed dressing
I just squeezed the lemon on everything and drizzled the poppyseed dressing over top!
Just put everything together and eat! I make everything look nice to share with you AND I find making my food look pretty…..makes me more inclined to eat it hahahaha. So ridiculous but hey! It works! But you can just easily throw everything together and enjoy!
I could eat any mix of fruit and veggies together-so this works for me. I like the sweet yet tangy mix of the dressing and lemon juice, the lemon pepper goodness of the tuna and the sweet bursts from the papaya and peaches. The feta adds some salt and sunflower seeds for crunch! So yum!
I would like to thank everyone for sticking around, even though I’ve slowed down on my blogging (you can message me anytime I always respond) and I would to thank all the new followers for following too! 😘
I have finished some shampoo bars and made my way into some new ones! This one here is from an Etsy shop “Anita’s La La Land”. It is called the Happily Hair After bar. It is an all natural, cold press shampoo bar. It is made with pistachio, jojoba, olive, and castor oil. It makes your hair soft and shiny. It really foams up and washes out clean. My favorite part? It is scented with grapefruit and orange oils, I LOVE grapefruit scented anything, so this is amazing. The packaging is just darling! This bar was $7 and I forget how much shipping was (this shop is based in Canada so I’m not sure if shipping is expensive or not-can’t recall!) but it’s $7 and that’s what my Chagrin Valley bars run so I’m happy with the price!
This bar didn’t weigh my hair down. It made my hair super shiny and smooth. I didn’t apply any oils or butters to the ends of my hair just to see how this bar performed. My ends are just fine! They look healthy and feel moisturized. I love the refreshing scent of this bar, though it doesn’t really stay in my hair.
How to use:
-Cut a sliver off your shampoo bar. This will help make your bar last longer.
-Wet your hair. Wet the sliver of shampoo and rub between your hands and rub the lather into your scalp. Work it through hair.
-Rub the shampoo bar more if your need more lather and apply to hair.
-Rinse. Rinse some more, and rinse again.
-Repeat all the steps again.
-Use your apple cider vinegar conditioner (your formula will vary from mine not everyone’s scalp is the same) and apply to the roots and length of your hair.
-Apply your apple cider vinegar solution again and let it set for however long hour prefer. I do it for 3-5 minutes.
-Rinse, with super cool water.
I wash twice because it really washes out the dirt and residue well with two washes. I like to use my ACV mix to remove any weird soap residue. When you use shampoo bars it seems like they don’t rinse out well….leaving behind a weird film. When you rinse twice with the vinegar, the acid really helps with the filmy build up!
This is the first and only item I have used from Anita’s La La land but it won’t be my last. I really love the quality and performance of this bar and I want to try her other all natural products! Here is a link to the shop and shampoo bar: https://www.etsy.com/listing/76933659/happily-hair-after-shampoo-soap-big-bar *photo from Anita’s La La land* *I purchased this item myself and this review is my own opinion. I did not receive any monetary compensation or any type of compensation for this post!***
Day 1 back on Dukan
Breakfast is nonfat Greek yogurt with a tablespoon of Oat bran!
I meant to start my diet again last week but it is better to start this diet when you’re not retaining water…..soooo if you’re starting this diet while your PMSing you could potentially not see the best results bc of retaining water and what not. Soooooo I had to postpone my kick start to this week. (TMI I know but sorry!)
I’ll either post single meals or sometimes a big collage of what I had! And I’ll post my results too!
PS-for all my No Poo followers I have a new shampoo bar and I’ll be reviewing it this week! 😊😊😊😊
the-miniature-flower-child said: Hi! I'm doing the no poo method because I have dandruff and I just absolutely hate using the chemical filled shampoo for dandruff because it makes my hair so so so greasy in like just a few hours after I've showered! I haven't washed my hair in 5 days and today I scrubbed my scalp with 1/2 tsp of baking soda and a drop of tea tree oil, do you think that's good? My hairs down to my knees so I'm worried that this might not work for me ^_^ ( yes my hairs super duper long but I love it! )
Congrats on going no poo!! I wouldn’t use a paste of baking soda in your hair. The pH level doesn’t match your scalp and it can make your hair dry and start to break. If you want to scrub your scalp use sugar and tea tree oil, or sugar-raw honey-tea tree oil. The sugar will exfoliate, the tea tree oil and raw honey are anti fungal/bacterial and will help treat the dandruff. Plus the raw honey moisturizes too, nourishing your scalp.
If your use baking soda water to wash your hair add a few drops of tea tree oil in your mix and some in your conditioning mix!
I put the apple cider vinegar into my roots too to help with dandruff…but I have to only use one tablespoon in my squeeze bottle—if I use anymore vinegar it makes my roots oily! But I find one teaspoon the right amount to fight the dandruff yet keep my hair from goin greasy! ☺️
Guys! I’ve lost 18 lbs on the Dukan diet!
I was on it all of April and on and off in May, now I’m back on completely starting over! I love this diet and the results.
I am not going to share all the diets details (please google it or read the book like I did!) but it’s sort of like Atkins. There are different phases and phase one is intense but I love the results.
Here are some of the foods you can have on Dukan, after the first phase! 1-spinach, beets(in moderation they are full of sugar) and veggie/soy burgers with sriracha. 2-roasted brussel sprouts! Love these-I roast them up with a tiny bit of oil (not really allowed- I use cooking spray) rubbed on and sprinkle on any Mrs. Dash or Trader Joe’s no salt seasonings and roast until tender. 3- mixed berries frozen and blended in my Yonanas machine! I topped it with granola (so not allowed on Dukan but it was a little cheat) 4-spaghetti squash noodles and tomato sauce, since noodles are not allowed on Dukan I used this squash! So yummy! 5-grilled shrimp skewers and green beans 6-a whole chicken in my crockpot. I just put a whole chicken in my crock pot on high for 5 hours (an hour per pound) and sprinkle with any herbs I choose/am in the mood for, then I eat the chicken with some veggies. I shred it up for tacos (no shells on dukan), I put it on top of salads, and shred it up for stuffed pasta shells (for my hubby who is not on Dukan).
These are just some of meals I’ve eaten (and remembered to take a pic of) on Dukan. Today is my first day back on and I’ll document it a little better!!!
Xoxo to all you!
Hey guys! Happy Monday!
It’s been a year and 4 months since I went no poo! Love my hair now and I won’t ever go back!
I’ve started using hair products—-just hairspray and sometimes dry shampoo from a can…..I just like the way they make my hair feel and they wash out easily-and leave no residue.
How is no poo going for everyone?!
